What is the skin?
The skin on an Ultranet Website is the area which surrounds your page content. It stays the same on the public side of your site, and your classpages. It is a static image (so no slideshows or Flash can be displayed in this area). This area is separate from the rest of your site in that you cannot change it when you log in. For ideas on the design of your skin please go to our Ultranet Design Portfolio.
The areas in the image below which are not blacked out make up the skin of this website.
Note: The navigation menu titles down the left are not part of the skin. They sit on top of the skin and are controlled by you.

How much does it cost?
There are three different price ranges depending on what you want your skin to look like.
What do I need to send through?
- Your pick of skin type (Basic, Photographic or Customised)
-
The title of your site as you wish it to appear (usually your school name).
-
Your school byline/motto (if you wish it to feature).
-
Your school logo
-
An image that includes your school colours.
-
Any additional images you wish to feature.
-
Any information regarding the design.
*Note: Please send through files in the highest quality that you have available.
Please send your files through as a zip file. ( Mac: Place everything in folder - control click -> compress | PC: Place everything in folder - right click -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder.
Who do I send these files to?
Once you have everything together that you need for your skin, send it
through to Charlotte Ivey, eTime's Web and Graphic Designer charlotte@etime.co.nz. She will create the skin and send you a design.
How long will it take for the skin to go up?
Once Charlotte has completed the design and you are happy
with it, it gets sent to Ultranet for them to upload to your school
site. This usually takes 1-2 weeks for the design to appear on your site.

On this website you will see a list of pages down the left-hand side. These are the main pages of the website, with subpages coming off them.
You need to work out the pages for your website.
Lucky 7
If you choose to have your homepage in the full screen format (page menu at the bottom), or if you are viewing one of the class pages, your main navigation is displayed along the bottom of the screen in up to 7 columns. So, it is best not to exceed 7 main pages so that they are always easily accessible.
Template
We have created a template to make it easy for you to work out the structure of your pages. Print this template once per main page you plan to have, scan all of your pages, and send it them to us.
Need more page title ideas?
Check out the Ultranet Design Portfolio page for links to other school sites for ideas.

There are two common ways in which schools use their homepage. Choose what kind of homepage is going to work best with the way you intend to use your Ultranet site.
a) An information-rich homepage
For example may contain:
- Welcome message
- Web 2.0 plugins (e.g. Google Calendar, Facebook and Twitter)
- Photos (static or slideshow)
- RSS feed plugin for News and Notices
- Latest news entries with links to other pages in the site
- Some buttons to important pages in the site
b) A graphic-rich homepage
For example may contain:
- A static graphic with 'hotspot' links to the main pages of the site
- A flash graphic (note: flash is not viewable on iPads or iPhones)
Choose your homepage layout
There are two different layouts to choose from for your homepage.
Menu navigation down the side.
Best for an information-rich homepage.
|
|

Menu navigation along the bottom.
Best for a graphic-rich homepage.
|
Make a sketch
If you have a plan for how you would like your homepage to look, make a sketch, scan it, and send it to us.
I want a slideshow
Charlotte can set up a slideshow for you which features a fade effect between photos, and allows for you to update slides yourself when you wish. Instructions on how to replace slides are supplied.
