Building your website

If you would like your school to have an Ultranet website, follow the steps on this page. This page can also be printed by clicking on the icon top right.

1) Initial sign-up
Contact eTime Director Chris Le Cren, who will help you with the initial sign-up process.

2) Skin
The skin on an Ultranet Website is the area which surrounds your page content. It stays the same on the public side of your site, and your classpages. It is a static image (so no slideshows or Flash can be displayed in this area). This area is separate from the rest of your site in that you cannot change it when you log in.

The areas in the image below which are not blacked out make up the skin of this website.


Note: The navigation menu titles down the left are not part of the skin. They sit on top of the skin and are controlled by you.

Please email through the following to Charlotte Ivey at charlotte@etime.co.nz
  • The title of your site as you wish it to appear (usually your school name).
  • Your school byline/motto (if you wish it to feature).
  • Your school logo
  • An image that includes your school colours.
  • Any additional images you wish to feature.
  • Any requests for tailor-made graphics.
  • Any information regarding the design.
*Note: Please send through files in the highest quality that you have available.
Please send your files through as a zip file. ( Mac: Place everything in folder - control click -> compress  |  PC: Place everything in folder - right click -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder.

Once you approve the design, the skin will be sent to Ultranet for upload to your site.
3) Homepage
Below are the popular choices that schools select for their homepage.

Slideshow
  • Photo Slideshow (featuring school photos- which you can change yourself)
  • Text Slideshow (featuring text-based graphics of your school vision/values)
  • A photo slideshow reaching across the page which intergrates photos with pop-up text.
Blurb area
  • An area where you can type in an introduction / welcome message
  • An area that features your current learning/term focus

Graphic Buttons

  • Tailor-made buttons that act as quick-links to your important pages (great when viewed on an iPad or iPhone).

Latest News Area

  • Facebook feed
  • A feed of your website's News Centre (articles feed and notices feed)
  • Twitter feed
  • A static area for you to type in information

Other plugins

  • Google calendar feed (recommended only if you already have a google calendar set up. Otherwise we recommend using the Ultranet Calendar.)
4) Pages
On this website you will see a list of pages down the left-hand side. These are the main pages of the website, with subpages coming off them. You need to work out the pages for your website.

Template
We have created a template to make it easy for you to work out the structure of your pages. Print this template once per main page you plan to have, scan all of your pages, and send it them to us.

It's up to you how much help you decide that you would like with your pages. Following are the different ways that eTime can assist you, and the steps involved.

Website Transfer
  • Ultranet pages set up
  • Content on your current school site moved across to Ultranet
  • Content styled to suit new look
Style Template Insertion
(Choose this if you don't have all of your content ready yet)
  • A style template with placeholder text and images inserted on each page
  • You go in and replaced text and images at your leisure
Content Insertion and Styling
(Choose this if your content is all ready to go)
  • Ultranet pages set up
  • Content inserted (text, images, links, plugins etc)
  • Content styled

5) Website maintanence
All websites need to be maintained to keep them looking good, loading quickly and functining correctly. Charlotte can assist you every now and again with your website to keep it clean, fresh, and working as it should.
