        Welcome...

This term’s theme, ‘Books and Beyond’ is a literacy based unit, with cross curricula
explorations into social studies, technology and numeracy. The children will be
exposed to a range of literature, from Maori myth, to Shakespeare, to Margaret
Mahy. They will come to understand that writers are products of specific historical
contexts and make analytical observations, drawing upon their own experiences as
                 readers.

The term’s key learning objectives are that the children will:

                         • develop analytical and interpretive skills through literature,
                         • develop creative writing,
                         • develop linguistic competency,
                         • develop listening and oral communication skills,
                         • develop reasoning skills,
                         • understand the concept of change especially as it is applied to the
                            development of language.

The children’s learning experiences will be enhanced with the unique leading edge
technology of eTime. Tasks will be set using Bloom’s Taxonomy and Socratic
questioning techniques. Trips to the Museum, Arts Centre, adjacent historic
buildings and the Botanic Gardens are some of the possible sites that the children
will use in exploring this term’s theme. Digital footage of these excursions and
internet research will be combined to create this term’s ‘Books and Beyond’ website.
