Gifted Writing Workshop – Kirwee School

eTime’s GATE and literacy consultant Marjory Woodfield recently worked with 20 Kirwee School students and their teacher Karen Potts for a two day Gifted Writing Workshop. The complexity and nonsense language of Lewis Carroll’s poem "Jabberwocky" was the motivation for writing.
Children were challenged through a range of activities. They used drama to reenact the story, identified key narrative elements and analysed vocabulary. They used original ideas and their own inventive language to create newspaper reports for an imaginary paper, “The Wonderland News”.
This was an exciting two days where learning was advanced and fast-paced. Children were encouraged to work to their potential in an innovative, sophisticated and technology rich environment.
